For this project, I used an illustrative picture I took on Monday, a leaf on a sidewalk, and edited it to tell two different stories. For the first edited picture at the top, I applied a filter to cool the entire image, then isolated the leaf and used Canva to make it chrome. I then did my best to overlay the chrome leaf in place of the original leaf, making it look as though the chrome leaf is in the original picture. I turned the image cooler and added the chrome to give it more of a futuristic and artistic feel. No one is going to believe that the leaf was actually chrome, but it just signifies the imagination penetrating reality.
For my second edited picture, I took the original leaf picture and slightly increased the saturation to make it look more colorful. I then took a frame from Canva and inserted the original picture into the frame, which automatically crops the image. I then put a filter over just the framed image, stripping the color away and making it black and white. I then repeated the process with a smaller frame and applied a picture to make the leaf look infrared. I then overlaid both of the frames onto the original picture, maintaining the continuity of the leaf. I did this to replicate the various types of vision- color, black-and-white, and infrared- representing a ‘stripping back’ of the self.

I really enjoyed the chrome imagery that was used on the leaf! I truthfully was not even aware that it was a feature. I personally feel like chrome has also been having a generational moment in a lot of aspects of artistic culture- I am specifically thinking about nails, jewelry, and other aspects of self-expression. I also really enjoy when nature (and naturally occurring shapes/patterns) are blended/worked together with ideas of futurism and technology.
